 ESG Engagement Pulse & Diagnostic

Scarlet Kites Strategy for growth and engagement

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles were never meant to be a trend. They are strategic levers for risk mitigation, innovation, and stakeholder trust. Yet too often, ESG is misunderstood, misused, or dangerously deprioritised, particularly in smaller enterprises where resources are stretched and priorities compete.

Environmental sustainability, business ethics and human rights have become increasingly complex, but their underlying purpose remains unchanged, and the need for clear, credible communication and stakeholder engagement are a necessity for reputation and growth.

"43% of companies have already captured financial value from ESG initiatives, and one third
of employees say ESG work increases their commitment to the organisation".
McKinsey & Co - ESG momentum: Seven reported traits that set organizations apart (2023)

The ESG Engagement Pulse Diagnostic helps organisations understand how their priorities, purpose statements, and societal commitments are perceived. Rather than assessing technical reporting frameworks, this diagnostic focuses on clarity, authenticity, and alignment, the elements that drive trust, engagement, and long term value.

Available in-person across the UK or via a virtual boardroom
Half Day or Full Day Transformation workshops available.

Why this matters

Are you sitting on genuinely good work and saying almost nothing about it publicly, worried that speaking up invites accusations of greenwashing? The instinct to stay quiet feels safe, but it isn’t. Investors, partners, and customers are reading signals you may not know you are sending.

If you’re scaling quickly or pivoting to meet the pace of market transformation, your narrative is the first thing to drift. And in the increasing prioritisation of corporate social responsibility, that drift has consequences.

ESG is shifting from reporting to capability building, and your stakeholders expect authentic, consistent messaging, not long technical reports. When your message no longer matches your audience’s expectations, loyalty erodes, funding conversations stall, and internal teams pull in different directions.

The stakes on getting this right are rising. COP31 in November puts stakeholders in a mindset where a statement alone won't do; they'll be looking for evidence that your narrative and your reality actually match.

Harvard Business School research shows that companies demonstrating strong stakeholder alignment
experience better financial performance and greater resilience during periods of market stress.

The ESG Engagement Pulse Diagnostic reveals where your brand, communications, and customer experience have fallen out of alignment, and what needs to change to close that gap.

It combines deep attitudinal insights with multi-channel analytics to create a single, objective view of how people experience your organisation from the outside. We audit your story, your external positioning, and the gap between the two.

How it works:

Diagnose
We'll figure out what's working, what isn't, and where the mismatch is between how your audience experiences your organisation and how they are responding, through an in-depth analysis of your entire marcomms function.

For clients whose objectives are underpinned by B-Corp principals, this often comes down to a translation gap: founders lead with the mechanism (how it works) when the buyer wants to know the outcome and the impact. Same substance, wrong order.

Align

We’ll get in the virtual or physical room with you, delivering the findings and building a shared understanding. We don’t just share the data and a cookie-cutter plan; we ensure that, by the time the strategy is defined, the people who need to own it and implement it already believe in it.

Action

Strategy without execution is hallucination. This is where we close the gap between insights and action, to deliver the change you want to see, everyone needs to know what you’re trying to achieve, why, and how they can contribute.

What you leave with:

Refined Positioning: A distinct, updated value proposition and messaging framework that stops you looking like every other brand with a green leaf and a ‘people & planet-first’ line, shortening the sales cycle and increasing conversion rates.

Audience Clarity: A data-driven view of why ESG messaging is landing quietly. We identify which audiences are still listening, and what specificity it takes to earn their trust back, and the precise, credibility‑building language required to re‑engage them around your purpose, sustainability, business ethics, and social justice priorities.

Internal Alignment: Employees increasingly choose, and stay with, employers whose values they can see in action, particularly younger generations (Deloitte, 2025). Most leadership teams underestimate how much this. matters to retention. The ESG Engagement Pulse Diagnostic reveals whether your internal story matches your external one.

Narrative Coherence: Your senior spokespeople equipped with a shared external language and evidence-backed positioning, so every investor pitch, client conversation, and public statement reinforces the same strategic, CSR‑aligned story. And can hold both the impact story and the commercial case in the same breath, consistently.

The 90-Day Roadmap: A practical, milestone-based communication and engagement plan your team can execute immediately, with clear owners, channels, and success metrics.

The Positioning Trade-Off: We also help you see the flip side: does ‘eco’ positioning bring in exactly the right people, or does it quietly cap your growth by putting off everyone else? Ethics and sustainability don't have to be the headline to be the substance.

The diagnostic is right for you if:
  • You are pre-Series A and your positioning needs to do more work in fewer words
  • You have scaled your products but your environmental sustainability, social, governance story hasn't kept pace
  • Your external narrative has drifted from where your organisation actually is today, in its market position, its offer, or its audience relationships
  • You're business objectives are underpinned by ethics but you're not sure how, or when, to talk about it without sounding performative or purely profit-driven
  • You are integrating AI into your communications and want to do it without losing audience trust

Who we are:

Each engagement is led by Jennifer Crago and Jess Sutton; combining strategic direction with hands-on messaging and analytics capability in a single, integrated team who have collaboratively driven strategic engagement, mobilisation, and business growth surrounding priority ESG themes since 2020.

Jennifer Crago is a strategic business director, committed to creating measurable value for people and planet. She has designed and delivered multi‑million‑pound environmental and social impact programmes, shaped purpose‑led strategy, and positioned organisations at the forefront of global priorities.

With cross‑sector expertise spanning technology, consultancy, sustainable development, climate and environment, ethical retail, marketing, and media, Jennifer brings fresh, context‑driven perspectives to complex global challenges. She has directed global sustainable development portfolios valued at $28M and represented organisations in shaping and influencing goals and commitments across the UN, WHO, and COP21 on themes including clean air, fossil‑fuel reduction, energy use and gender equality.

Jennifer has also led multiple climate tech innovation programmes, including digital twins and environmental data rescue, redefined commercial and retail ethics and sustainability brand strategies, and was responsible for launching the UK’s first Green Marketing and Green NPD event portfolio for Marketing Week (2007), giving her a unique ability to bridge ESG strategy, stakeholder expectations, and emerging climate technologies.

She champions bold, imaginative ESG approaches that go beyond reporting; driving measurable impact, inspiring engagement, and positioning business as a force for good.

Jess Sutton is a messaging strategist and copywriter who spent her first three years in business working exclusively within sustainability and ESG-led sectors; writing for eco-led consumer product brands, purpose-driven service providers and coaches, and a sustainable agriculture brand. That grounding gave her a close, practical understanding of the exact tension this diagnostic is built to solve: how to talk credibly about impact, whatever form it takes, without sounding performative, preachy, or purely profit-driven.

Her wider expertise sits at the intersection of audience insight, positioning, and conversion-led copy, turning research and analytics into messaging that holds up under scrutiny from investors, customers, and internal teams alike. She has delivered a client launch upsell sequence that converted at 8% against a target campaign, helping the business hit its maximum launch intake goal, and written sales messaging that sold out an in-person retreat outright. Her copywriting and email marketing has sustained a 35–40% open rate average over three-plus years.
